  2. Online Event - Anacortes Mill History & Shoreline Cleanup

    May 12, 2020, 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM @

Join us for a virtual presentation brought to you by the Friends of Skagit Beaches! Wood mills were an important foundation of the early growth of the Anacortes economy starting in the 1870s and continuing for a century. The mills helped Anacortes become what it is today but left behind an unintended legacy of environmental damage to the shoreline of Fidalgo Bay. That’s not the end of the story though. The Anacortes Baywide Cleanup that started around 2007 has cleaned up and restored habitat at a number of these mill sites reestablishing wildlife habitat and recreation areas for the community. Betty Carteret, will share the “Trail Tales” story of these events.
