[ARCHIVED] Recognizing Native Insects vs. Giant Asian Hornet

The Washington State Department of Agriculture has come up with a helpful webpage after numerous people have reported killing the invasive Asian giant hornet only to find out it was a native insect they terminated.  Titled: "Don’t Squish Me!" the link can be found here: https://wastatedeptag.blogspot.com/2020/06/dontsquishme.html

Confirmed sightings of the Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia) as recently as June 6 in Whatcom County have raised more concerns about its spread in northwestern Washington.

Anacortes Parks and Recreation along with the Samish Nation, Swinomish Nation, Port of Anacortes and Skagit County are setting up a trapping network on Fidalgo Island.  If you are interested in volunteering on traps in City Parks and Forest Lands, please contact Anacortes Parks and Recreation at 360-293-1918.
