[ARCHIVED] Invasive Species

Green Simple Couple Photo Collage (Facebook Post) (1)

Parks and Recreation Staff and community volunteers have been working to remove invasive non-native plants from the Anacortes Community Forest Lands and local parks for the past 30 years.  Crews have pulled English Ivy, Scotch Broom, Holly and other invasives.  The reason we do this is to help restore the native plants on which the wildlife and native ecosystem depend.  More recently Poison Hemlock has been in the news.  Our crews and volunteers have been working to remove this plant for many years.  If you have questions about Poison Hemlock please reach out to the Skagit County Noxious Weed Board; here is link to their website:

Here is the link the Washington Invasive Species Council website:  WISC - Washington Invasive Species Council

If you have specific questions about a park or area of the Community Forest Lands, please contact us at coa.parks@cityofanacortes.org
