Traffic Requests

The City of Anacortes receives numerous requests from citizens for additional traffic signage, striping, street lighting and other traffic concerns.  The city has a Traffic Safety Advisory Committee that reviews the requests and makes a determination based on agency policies and the Revised Code of Washington State (RCW or State Law). In some cases, the committee will recommend items to the Public Works Director who will then take it to the Mayor for final approval.

The RCW requires the city to follow the national guidelines outlined in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).  Traffic control devices include signal lights, traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic circles, roundabouts, and other means of organizing traffic.  The MUTCD covers all aspects of the placement, construction and maintenance of every form of approved traffic control.

Traffic Safety Advisory Committee Members:

The Traffic Safety Advisory Committee members include the Public Works Director, Police Chief, City Engineer, Operations Manager, Street Supervisor and three Council Members.
