Pictures of the Past
Wallie Funk’s new book, Pictures of the Past, celebrates 125 years of Anacortes history and includes stories on all things Anacortes. Here is an excerpt from Funk’s basketball writing:
“There were just two tournament classifications back then: A, the big schools with no enrollment cap and B, the small schools with 200 students or less. Major changes have been made in intervening years. Entering the 1956 playoffs ranked Number 3 in the state, behind Lincoln of Seattle (Number 1) and Seattle Prep (Number 2) in the regular season’s final Class A Top Ten balloting, Anacortes was, for the better part of three decades, a frequent tournament attender and contender.”
