March 9, 2017 - Anacortes, WA – The City of Anacortes Public Works Department is moving forward with the 2017 City’s Sanitary Sewer Inflow and Infiltration Reduction program. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 13. The contractor will have 45 working days to complete the project. Construction will typically be from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, although construction may be allowed during weekends and in the evening hours if necessary. During construction, there will be traffic detours and road closures to allow for the work.
The City has contracted with C. Johnson Construction, Inc. to replace a substandard waterline on 3rd Street from Commercial to “Q” Avenue. Construction is scheduled to begin this upcoming Monday, March 6th. The contractor will have 14 calendar days to complete the project.

2017 Waterline Replacement Project - February 24, 2017 - Anacortes, WA,Update - The contractor has completed the installation of the new waterlines from 12th to 17th Street on “K” Avenue and on 25th Street from “K” to “L” Ave. The next step is for the contractor to install the asphalt patch for the new waterline trench. The paving will begin this upcoming Monday, February 27th and is expected to be completed by Thursday March 3rd.

Music educator Vince Fejeran presents the first program in a series devoted to jazz history from the perspective of individual instrumentalists. Due to the main break, we have noticed a wide spread area of customers who are experiencing a brown discoloration in their drinking water. It is our suggestion that citizens flush their water lines by running cold water through a fixture such as a shower or bathtub until their water is clear prior to consuming.
The Anacortes Community Task Force seeks to:

Skagit County to send out Presidential Primary ballot - County Auditor Youngquist’s office is sending out ballots May 3 to approximately 70,300 registered voters for Washington’s 2016 Presidential Primary. To assure military and overseas ballots can be returned in time to count, these ballots were sent in early April.
The Moody’s Investors Service has affirmed its Aa3 rating for the City of Anacortes. Mayor Laurie Gere explained the importance of maintaining the City’s bond rating, stating “It is a clear vote of confidence in all of the hard work we’ve done to properly manage the City’s finances. I am very pleased that our continued strong financial policies and practices were a key factor that helped to maintain Anacortes’ favorable rating.”

Anacortes Hires City Attorney December 22, 2015 Anacortes, WA – On December 21, 2015, the Anacortes City Council confirmed Mayor Gere’s appointment of Ms. Darcy James Swetnam as the City Attorney. Ms. Swetnam began working at the City in May 2015 as the Assistant City Attorney and will begin her assignment as the City Attorney on January 1, 2016.

The contractor, Columbia Pumping & Construction, Inc. will be onsite November 23, and has a project completion date of December 31,, 2015.
