You must provide your own refuse can(s). The City of Anacortes will
provide you with a decal for each can to show the sanitation crew that
you have service. Please follow these instructions for placing this
decal on your garbage can. Your garbage can will not be emptied if the
decal is not placed visibly on the can.
- Clean off a spot large enough for the decal before placing it on
the can – if can is dirty, wet, or oily, decal may not stick
- On some plastic cans, you may need to “rough up” the spot with
sandpaper to assure the decal sticks
- Place the decal approximately 4” from the top of the can and
between the handles – press firmly, especially around decal edges
Please note: If you change the size or number of refuse cans
you use, you will need to contact the City of Anacortes and obtain new
service decals.

Additional Refuse
All extra refuse must be placed in pre-paid “City Garbage Bags”; blue,
heavy-duty 32-gallon capacity bags available for purchase at City Hall
(the corner of 6th Street and Q Avenue) and at various retail outlets
throughout Anacortes:
$2.50 per bag
For prices and pickup of large quantities of refuse, oversized items
such as stoves, dishwashers, washing machine, clothes dryers, hot water
tanks and any CFC operated appliances such as refrigerators, upright

To order delivery and setup of a temporary dumpster you will need to
complete and submit a “Temporary
Container Rental Agreement”. Applications are available
online or at City Hall.
Once you have received your temporary dumpster you will need to call
(360) 293-1909 to request dumping and removal of the dumpster.
The City of Anacortes does not pick up yard waste. Contact Waste
