Engineering - Flounder Bay Dredging Project

Dredging Advisory Committee Meeting:

10am, Wednesday, October 22nd

City Council Chambers at Anacortes City Hall, 904 6th St.

This project is a unique and unusual collaboration between the City and private citizens, the format for which is entirely new. The City is devoting resources and expertise in project management to facilitate the carrying-out of this project, which may otherwise have taken much longer to develop.

The Flounder Bay dredging project is a multiple phase project that is expected to take 1.5 to 3 years for completion. The project is broken down into functional phases for management and approval of the project as it moves forward. Phase I, which was approved by Anacortes City Council on the 19th of November, 2007 consists of background and preliminary work that is aimed at gathering the information necessary to determine the cost range and feasibility of the dredging. After this phase engineers and planners can begin to apply for the necessary permits and begin design work.

After each phase a public meeting will be held to allow the people affected by the project to review the information and status of the project. Each additional project phase will require an ordinance approving the phase. Current approval by City Council is only for Phase I, the next phase of the project will proceed only after a review of all results from the prior phase and subsequent approval.
