| ANACORTES CELEBRATES ARBOR DAY, APRIL 25 AT CAUSLAND PARK |

The City of Anacortes will celebrate Arbor Day at Causland Park on Thursday, April 25 by planting a red oak tree. The community is welcome to join us for a tree planting ceremony at 10:30am at the park.
Anacortes was also named a 2012 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 12th year Anacortes earned this national designation.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the US Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters.

| PRESS RELEASE - City Hall Sewer Reconstruction Project |

The City of Anacortes Public Works Department is moving forward with an improvement project at City Hall. The project includes installing new manholes and pipe on the City Hall sewer line at the North side of the building. Q Avenue will be closed between 5th and 6th Streets for up to a week beginning Monday, November 5, 2012. See more

| Shutdown of the Anacortes Water Treatment Plant and transmission system-Friday, September 28, 2012 |

The Anacortes Water Treatment Plant is scheduling a complete shutdown of the Drinking Water Treatment Plant and the supply of water to the City’s transmission system on Friday, September 28th from 7:30am to 5:30pm - a total of 10 hours. The reason for the shutdown is because Puget Sound Energy will be shutting down all main service lines to the plant to perform maintenance. See more

| City of Anacortes Earns WellCity Award |

Olympia, WA–The City of Anacortes earned a WellCity Award from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Employee Benefit Trust for the 9th consecutive year. A total of 84 cities and public entities demonstrated their commitment to employee health promotion and met the stringent standards set forth for the award. Each of these cities are part of AWC’s Employee Benefit Trust, a health insurance pool that provides coverage to over 15,000 city employees across the state. As a result of earning the designation, WellCity Award recipients will receive a 2% premium discount on their Regence BlueShield Health medical coverage in 2013. This is roughly equivalent to a 1% property tax in the City of Anacortes. See more

| Press Release - 9th St Sidewalk Improvement Project |

The City of Anacortes Public Works Department is moving forward with a pedestrian safety project. The project includes replacement of trees on the south side of 9th Street from Commercial Avenue to Q Avenue. The damaged sidewalk section will be replaced with a 10-foot permeable paver walkway and new trees will be planted along the curb line.

| Road Closure -Fidalgo Bay Road |

The work will begin on May 15, 2012 at 7:00 AM and is expected to be completed May 15, 2012 at 7:00 PM. During this time Fidalgo Bay Road will have local and emergency access only. Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through, and access to Weaverling will be allowed via the south end of Fidalgo Bay Road. See more
