The City of Anacortes is conducting a Public Works Open House on Friday, May 13, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at our Award Winning Wastewater Treatment Plant at 500 T Avenue. The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity to the community to see firsthand the systems and equipment which maintain the outstanding quality of life that we enjoy in Anacortes! The Open House will feature tours of our state of the art Wastewater Treatment Plant. The goal of this event is to provide students and the community an opportunity to see first hand the engineering systems and equipment, which help maintain the outstanding quality of life that we enjoy in Anacortes.
Students and community members will be able to ride in our street sweeper and garbage trucks, as well as operate surveying equipment. The City’s huge vacuum truck will demonstrate its abilities, and students will be able to use our underground locating machine to locate buried pipes and utilities.
Our state of the art Wastewater Treatment Plant will be open for tours, and will illustrate the importance of biology, chemistry, and physics in the processing of “you know what” into water that is nearly drinkable and ready for discharge into Guemes Channel.
We will also hold a Water Tasting Contest. The water from our own taps will compete against popular bottled water brands for the title of “Best Drinking Water in Anacortes”. Everyone can participate in this contest and cast their vote!
We will also be hosting exhibits on water conservation, recycling, and composting.
