On Thursday 12/30/04 former Mayor Doyle Geer passed away following an extended illness. Mayor Geer served as the City of Anacortes’ Mayor from 1992 to 1993.
Mayor Geer was actively involved with the Anacortes Sister Cities Association. Mayor Geer will be remembered for establishing relationships in Russia with Lomonosov. Additionally, he partnered with Mayor Kon of Kisakata, Japan to establish a strong youth exchange between our cities. Mayor Geer’s personal commitment to the Anacortes Sister Cities organization was based on his strong belief that these connections would help to create a more peaceful world.
Mayor Geer also worked tirelessly for the Anacortes Youth Sports Coalition. He helped to raise funds that created opportunities for young people to participate in sports activities. This work has had a great impact on our city’s focus for our future generations.
In Mayor Geer’s memory the City of Anacortes will be lowering the United States and Washington State flags to half-mast for one week beginning on 12/31/04 and ending on 1/7/05.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2005 at Brodniak Hall. Doors open at 2:30 pm, service begins at 3:30 pm.
