The Anacortes Citizens Auxiliary Patrol is a volunteer organization consisting of over 81 volunteers under the supervision of the Anacortes Police Department. The patrol was founded in 1992 with volunteers joining together to form an expanded neighborhood watch program. Over the years, two separate groups have evolved, the Downtown patrol and the West End Patrol. Each groups serves as extra “eyes and ears” for the patrol officers in their area of the city.
Auxiliary Patrol volunteers provide the following services to our community; general patrol, watching for suspicious or out of place behavior; vacation house checks, issuing disabled parking warnings, patrolling business areas on foot after business hours and ensuring doors and windows are secure.
Volunteers also provide police support or traffic control at special events, leaving patrol officers available for emergency responses. In 2002 alone, the Auxiliary Patrols logged over 6,100 hours of service for the City.
The Anacortes Police Department is committed to the growth and continued success of this program. In a spirit of cooperation and partnership with the community our pledge is to recruit, train and retain dedicated volunteers who will participate in meaningful community safety, security and service activities
The Anacortes Citizens Auxiliary Patrol is an active member of the R.S.V.P. program.
