Anacortes Police Citizens Auxiliary Patrol
The Anacortes Citizens Auxiliary Patrol is a volunteer organization consisting of over 80+ volunteers who work under the supervision of the Anacortes Police Department. The patrol was founded in 1992 by volunteers joining together to form an expanded neighborhood watch program.
Over the years, two separate groups have evolved; the Downtown patrol and the West End Patrol. Each groups serves as extra eyes and ears for the Anacortes Police in their area of the city.
In 2010 alone, the Auxiliary Patrols logged over 3,682 hours of service for the City of Anacortes.
Auxiliary Patrol volunteers provide the following services to our community:
General patrol
Watching for and reporting suspicious or out of place behavior
House checks for persons who are on vacation, (over 188 homes checked in 2010)
Issuing warning notices to persons who park improperly in Disabled Parking locations
Patrolling business areas on foot after hours to ensure that doors and windows are secure
Delivering community notifications regarding Registered Sex Offenders
Volunteers also provide police support or traffic control at special events, such as:
March for Meals
4th of July Parade and Fireworks Display
Kids-R-Best Fest
Shipwreck Days
Art Run
Arts Festival
Jazz Festival
Christmas Tree Lighting
Senior Bazaar
The Anacortes Police Department is committed to the growth and continued success of this program. In a spirit of cooperation and partnership with the community our pledge is to recruit, train and retain dedicated volunteers who will participate in meaningful community safety, security and service activities.
