Fire Department Training

Anacortes Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs are continually training, practicing and learning new skills and procedures. We are continually working to improve our training standards as well as our training content. Each year, personnel are required to attend specific types of training and to maintain a minimum number of training hours. In addition to 56 training hours in State mandated subjects, Paramedics must complete a minimum of 50 hours of Continued Medical Education (CME) training and each EMT is required to complete 8 hours of OTEP (Ongoing Training and Evaluation Program).

Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs are expected to train while on duty and at special training events whereby they achieve at least 36 hours of training each quarter. Volunteer Firefighters attend Wednesday night training sessions and are expected to attend 75% of all training each quarter.
