The Anacortes Fire Department administers the provisions of the new
International Fire code as adopted by the State of Washington July 1,
2004. This is accomplished through mandated routine fire inspections,
complaint referrals, and pre-construction plan review. All businesses
within the community are routinely inspected every 1-2 years. Copies of
the new International Fire Code are available at the Anacortes Public
Library, Fire Department, and the Building Department in City Hall. As
Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief Dan Harju oversees the Building Inspection
program and reviews and approves Underground Storage Tank (UST) fill or
removal permits, welding permits, and blasting permits. Please visit the
