This Contest is open to any utility, municipality or water district in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island, San Juan, Jefferson or Clallam counties.
At the time of the tasting, the water is at room temperature. Judging is on three characteristics; odor, flavor and after-taste. Awards given for first, second, and third places for each source category. The panel consisted of impartial judges (i.e. no politicians or subsection water utility employees) did the tasting and scoring.
First place went to Glacier Springs Association. They are a small housing development near Glacier on the way up to the Mt. Baker Ski area with 102 customers.
Second went to Northwest Water System, a small purveyor near Stanwood with 35 customers.
Third Place went to Palisades's water system, Class A, a small purveyor on Camano island with 37 customers. These smaller systems pull water either from a well or a lake.
